When hope was high and life worth living
I dreamed that love would never die
I dreamed that God would be forgiving.
Then I was young and unafraid
And dreams were made and used and wasted.
There was no ransom to be paid,
No song unsung, no wine untasted.
But the tigers come at night
With their voices soft as thunder
As they tear your hope apart
As they turn your dream to shame.
He slept a summer by my side,
He filled my days with endless wonder.
He took my childhood in his stride
But he was gone when autumn came.
And still I dreamed he'd come to me,
That we would live the years together
But there are dreams that can not be
And there are storms we can not weather.
I had a dream my life would be
So different from this hell I'm living,
So different now from what it seemed
Now life has killed the dream I dreamed.
My comment:
I know this song through "Les Misérables". I watched the video of "Les Misérables" when I studied in junior high school. I was very impressed by outline of the opera and the acting of performers. The song depicts that girl recalled the memory of her family before her husband abandoned her and her child. The song makes people feel sad. I think that the performance of singer is very well because it makes people experience the strong disappointed which is from the protagonist.
The two lines:
When hope was high and life worth living
I dreamed that love would never die
I try to find some positive words from lyrics of the song. I think that believe and insist something is very important. And something is not a religion, I mean that is your dream or a sentence which you have listened or glimpsed. From now on, no matter what you face, try to insist your target, and trust that you will find the solution. Then, I think that you will be better than the past.
